The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program in Tobago allows trained persons to be better prepared to respond to an emergency situation in their communities. When emergencies occur, CERT Technicians can give critical support to first responders, provide immediate assistance to victims, and organize spontaneous volunteers at a disaster site. CERT members can also help with non-emergency projects that help improve the safety of the community. The full purpose of the program is to provide the community with well trained professional responders who can assist in the event of a natural or man-made disaster that overwhelms or delays the island's immediate response capabilities. The CERT Career Concept was developed by NEMA Tobago, which aims at making available adequately trained personnel to immediately respond to any emergency / disaster that may occur in a community, in a professional manner. A CERT Volunteer arm is attached to each team, which would provide an auxiliary support to the operation of each team. Areas of Training and Certification:
