NEMA Tobago
Disaster Management Committee Meeting- 2008
Members
of the NEMA Tobago Disaster Management Committee assembled at the Mt. Irvine
Bay Hotel on 21st May 2008 in preparation for the upcoming hurricane
season.
Agencies represented were:-
Trinidad and Tobago Fire Service, Trinidad &
Tobago Police Service, Emergency Health Services, Department of Health and
Social Services, Information Division, Port Authority of Trinidad and Tobago,
Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission, Public Administration & Property
Management, Division of Community Development and Culture, Trinidad and Tobago
Meteorological Service, Public Transport Service Cooperation, Trinidad & Tobago
Regiment, Water and Sewage Authority of Trinidad & Tobago, Trinidad and Tobago
Coast Guard and Tobago Mission of Seventh Day Adventist.
High on
the Agenda was:
- Preparedness for 2008 Hurricane Season
- Introduction to WEB EOC Training to representatives in attendance
- NEMA Tobago GIS Information System
- Other Businesses-

Areas prone to Strong Winds, Flash Flooding
and Land Slides were also brought into focus since. The use of Geographic
Information Systems (GIS) pre-impact data is vital to the agency as it is better
able to plan and execute its responsibility in the event of a disaster.
Emphasis was placed on readiness, since the
2008 Hurricane Season can present threats to our island and the preparedness of
each agency would amount to a more efficient and effective response to any
impending incident.
