GRENADA AND ITS DEPENDENCIES UNDER A TROPICAL STORM WARNING

A Tropical Strom Warning continues for the Islands of Grenada and its Dependencies. A Tropical Storm Warning means that Tropical Storm conditions are expected within the warning area……..generally within 24 hours.

At 5::00 p.m. today the center of Hurricane Dean was located near Latitude 14.0 North and longitude 56.5 West or about 335 km east of the Northern Windward Islands.

Dean is moving towards the west near 37 km/hr and this motion is expected to continue for the next 24 hours. On this track the center of Dean would cross the Lesser Antilles early Friday.

Maximum sustained winds are near 160 km/hr with higher gusts. Dean is a category two hurricane on the Saffir Simpson scale. Additional strengthening is forecast during the next 24 hours.

Repeating the 5:00 p.m. position 14.0 N 56.5 W. moving toward the west near 37 km/hr, maximum sustained winds 160 km/hr.

The next advisory will be issued at 12:00 midnight.

WEATHER CONDITIONS EXPECTED IN TRINIDAD, TOBAGO GRENADA AND ITS DEPENDENCIES EARLY FRIDAY 17TH AUGUST 2007 ASSOCIATED WITH THE PASSAGE OF HURRICANE DEAN

Trinidad and Tobago should experience periods of heavy showers/thundershowers accompanied by gusty winds up to 60km/hr, particularly in northern districts.

Grenada and its dependencies should experience Tropical Storm conditions i.e. Heavy showers/thundershowers and sustained winds in excess of 65km/hr.

There is the likelihood of localized flooding in areas of prolonged showery activity.

Rough seas with waves in excess of 4 meters will affect the open waters of these islands.
